Sunday, March 22, 10:10 a.m., Howe Meadow
Western Reserve Racing and The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park invite you to BEAT THE TRAIN! at the 2015 Great Spring TRAINing Race.
Show your support for the Conservancy and join us for this 5 or 10 mile race against the train starting at Howe Meadow, in Peninsula. From there runners and walkers will race 5 miles against the train and then climb aboard a climate-controlled passenger rail car on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for the return trip. 10 mile participants will have the chance to beat the train twice on an out and back towpath course. Enjoy food, beverages, and celebrate your victory at Howe Meadow after the race. Can you hear the whistle blowing? Register today – this thrilling journey is about to begin!
Friends and family wanting to catch a glimpse of you along the course can ride the 10:10 train from the Akron Northside station on a first come, first serve basis. The train will stop at Lock 29 and Howe Meadow before heading back to Akron. Tickets can be purchased at regular price directly from the railroad once you board the train. Please consult the CVSR website for train schedule, pricing, and other details.
- Spring TRAINing Medal awarded to all participants who beat the train to Lock 29!
- Approximately 10 min/miles for 5 milers, 8 min/miles for 10 milers.
Drop bags will be transported from the start to the 5 mile finish at Lock 29 so runners can enjoy the train ride in comfort. Please use the Vertical Runner Cinch Pack and label it clearly with your first name, last name, and bib number. Duck tape and a sharpie work well for this task!
